Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers — hyaluronic acid

Dermal filling with hyaluronic acid is one of the most popular procedures in aesthetic medicine. Hyaluronic acid acts as filler that increases the volume of the body part being treated. Hyaluronic acid treatment makes wrinkles shallower, fills skin folds, corrects and rejuvenates facial contours, enlarges lips and heals scars. Hyaluronic acid is a natural and essential component of our skin, responsible for maintaining its proper firmness, hydration and elasticity.

Why are dermal fillers needed then? Unfortunately, the level of a natural hyaluronic acid decreases with age, making the skin dry, scars harder to heal and wrinkles more pronounced.

Effects of hyaluronic acid treatment:

smoother wrinkles and skin folds

improved appearance of scars

corrected facial contour

better-shaped lips

improved skin hydration and elasticity

How is hyaluronic acid filling performed?

Hyaluronic acid filling takes place after a consultation with a doctor or a dentist. First an anaesthetic cream is applied to the area that will be treated. Once the anaesthesia takes effect, the essential part of the procedure — hyaluronic acid injection can commence.

Hyaluronic acid is a solid yet elastic gel. It is injected under the layer of the skin using a very fine. The duration of treatment depends on what body part is being treated, but usually it takes around 30 minutes.

The procedure is considered non-invasive, so the patient can return to normal daily activity immediately afterwards, Local redness and sometimes minor bruising might be visible initially. However, hyaluronic acid filling is deemed to be one of the safest treatments in aesthetic medicine.

How quickly is the effect visible and how long does it last?

The effect of hyaluronic acid treatment is almost instant. The full effect is visible after a few days, when any minor swelling subsides. Fillers are not permanent. They gradually degrade and are absorbed in about 9 to 12 months, after which you should repeat the procedure to maintain its effect. The exact duration depends on a number of factors, such as age, area of treatment or patient’s lifestyle — for example, smoking shortens its lasting effect. Hyaluronic acid filling is a reversible process.

Choosing the right product is essential to ensure that patient is satisfied with a treatment. Not only does it have an effect on the quality and durability of the treatment, but also on health and safety of the patients.

Only high-quality, thoroughly tested preparations can guarantee complete patients’ satisfaction. Unfortunately, the market is full of clinics using cheap, unknown brands. At Marie Antoinette, we only use the highest-quality hyaluronic acid such as Juvaderm®. I always choose the finest products for our patients.

Is hyaluronic acid treatment suitable for everyone?

Hyaluronic acid filler is one of the safest treatments. However there are a few medical conditions when patients shouldn’t have it: pregnancy and breastfeeding, autoimmune diseases, active cancer treatment, susceptibility to hypertrophic scars, skin infections such as herpes and acne, sensitivity to hyaluronic acid

You should also remember to wait for some time after the treatment before undergoing any other rejuvenating procedures such as Botox®, laser therapy or chemical peeling.
